RENEWABLE ENERGY

Renewable energy is an inclusive term for all of the energy production methods that work in a sustainable way. Because these methods use naturally occurring and replenished resources, the production of renewable energy does not have an irreversible negative impact on our environmental systems.

The different types of renewable energy can be categorized under many different headings, energy directly from the sun or solar energy, energy from wind, energy from water, geothermal energy and energy from biofuels. Although some of these technologies are more popular than others, they all have an important role to play in the future production of the world's energy.

Solar power has been around for a long time and typically involves solar cells or concentrated solar power, but recent developments have expanded its use to include solar chemical and thermoelectric solutions. Wind energy is growing at a rapid rate around the world and works through setting up wind turbines that are driven by the sun. There are many different forms of water energy being used with hydroelectric generators being the most popular form.

Geothermal energy involves tapping into the energy which lies under the earth's surface, energy that is constantly being generated from the core and so is sustainable in nature. With the cost of fossil fuels getting greater and their negative impact getting more well known, biofuels are a definitive part of the renewable solution as well. There are many ways of turning biomass into fuels, with recent research looking into the conversion of this biomatter into electricity.
